Chimney Inspection
Glasnevin
Here is a typical video inspection of house in Dublin, Glasnevin. The neighbors of the chimney we done the video inspection for, reported that there was smoking filling into their rooms when their fire was lighting.
The result of the video clearly shows that the chimney clay pots where poorly built and not inline. There also seems to be a large filling of concrete perhaps filling a hole of some sort. Along with this there is also clear signs of two large cracks suggesting a chimney fire in previous years.
This chimney has been signed unsafe to use, and we have also notified the neighbours that if smoke was entering into their chimney it suggests that there chimney is not sealed or intact.

Smoking Stove Wicklow
This is a stove that had been reportedly smoking, only shortly after being swept on several occasions. On are arrival we swept the stove and done a video inspection.
We clearly noticed that the stove had a full 90 Degree bend on top of the stove, connected to a horizontal pipe about 8 Inches Long, which lead into the chimney stack creating another sharp 90 Degree Bend upwards.
After our video inspection, we concluded that due to the poor installation and the improper sweeping of the chimney over the years had caused the creosote to build up with a poor draw.
We have now also noted there appears to be cracks and further damage in the pots indicating a chimney fire in the past.
This chimney now needs to be descaled and stove pipe to insert correctly so the stove and chimney will draw properly and prevent further build up.

Chimney Descaling
Tipperary
We were contacted when a customer contacted us that their chimney brush keep getting stuck around 3 meters up the chimney. The customers suspected that there was blockage in the flue and the draw has been very poor for a very long time. When we arrived we tried sweeping the open fire place with a back boiler, and although our system was able to pass the blockage we did feel a lot of resistance against the rods. When going on top of the chimney to our surprise we didn’t need a video camera to see what causing the problem – have a look at what we found!
After finding out that only the bottom of the flue and top recess of the fire had only been regularly cleaned for the past 25 years, and the rest of the main flue had just been given an odd brush every so often.

This has now lead to chimney having to be descaled for server tar build up, and almost 15 black sacks of debris was removed from the chimney. Descaling is not a recommend solution for any chimney, as it’s quite abrasive and can crack pots. You can see clearly the chips that had been made to pots during the descaling process in part 2.
