Rendering is the application of a sand & cement mix to exposed brickwork which offers a good impermeable surface. Rendering a chimney or wall consists of the application of two layers, firstly the scratch coat which offers the second layer a flat and even surface. The second coat is rubbed down to complete a quality finished surface.

Chimney caps are also rendered in the same way, but with a chimney cap drip (widest point in which water runs off) is crucial in deflecting continues rain water away from the chimney leaving it free from dampness and pointing continuously falling off.
